Who is the Devil, exactly?
I’m going to quickly lay down some facts we can find in scripture to see what this ‘devil’ truly is…or was.
Hebrews 2:14 mentions ‘the devil’ as the one who held the power of death, and was destroyed by Jesus’ death.
Paul told us that death is being carnally minded…so apparently death = a state of the mind.
And 2 Timothy 1:10 tells us that the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ abolishes death for us…interesting!
The bible also tells us that there is also one that is wielding the power of life & death….the tongue!
Symbolically, the tongue represents a source of wisdom – there is one true source which is God, & there’s a false source, the ‘serpent’, aka the tree of the knowledge of good & evil.
BUT! What in the scriptures held the wages of death? SIN.
Sin had the power to exact death…but now it says that the one who held that power was the devil.
The word translated devil is diabolos & means ‘false accuser, slanderer’.
Religion is represented as the Pharisees & Sadducees in scripture, & Jesus said in an interaction with the Pharisees (religion), that their father is the devil…and also referred to ‘him’ as a ‘murderer from the beginning’…one that ‘does not stand in the truth’…there is ‘no truth in him’…AND that ‘he’ is a LIAR AND THE FATHER OF IT.
Sin is ‘missing the mark’, an error in judgment of who we are, & who God is, because we became separated from Him in our minds – a great mistake! It is pointed out that it is in the mind that we were alienated & enemies of God by ‘wicked works’ (mistaken beliefs), & it was in the understanding that we were therefore alienated from the LIFE of God also – see Colossians 1:21 & Ephesians 4:18.
We started to believe in a God of the ‘dead’ rather than a God of lIfe. Jesus mentions in Mark : “He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are therefore greatly mistaken.”!
SIN produced a completely slanderous image in our mind & then in our body. Death. Mortality. Then it rules through its program – death – that weakened mindset that can never inherit life because all it sees is lack & weakness.
Mortality began in the mind, & because we are made in the image of our Father, we produce according to our true likeness. We literally manifested what that separated slanderous image in our mind into our physical reality.
Are we like God? Are we mortal? Isn’t God immortal? Yes, no, & yes!
We are immortal spirit beings and YES, the truth is, we are living in an immortal body. But we are experiencing a mortal existence because it is what is coming from the program – the mortal memory bank sin left behind.
Mortality was never in the plans for us – mortality means ‘destined for death’. God never spoke this for us! He actually mentioned we should choose life – which indicated that WE CAN choose life & have some control over our destiny.
SO….
…coincidentally, or not so coincidentally, we have:
a devil destroyed, death abolished, false accusations from another tongue (a wisdom not of God), a slandered image, a liar & father of religion, & mortality – which is death’s manifestation & corruption of LIFE, our true image.
SIN – I DO think you fit these shoes, you devil!
Can you now see this ‘false accuser’? It is mortality in the mind & body left behind by a dead man – Sin, the destroyed ‘devil’, serpent, dragon etc.. – that has NO business in children of LIFE!
The image of it seen in the body is hard to ignore – but we must overcome it, live from the inside out – this accuser is dead! And it is very possible & not hard. We simply stop bowing to that idol of mortality, & submit ourselves to believe God & allow Jesus to save you from death.
It is high time to awake from sleep & dare to believe what He has said from the beginning:
‘In Our Likeness & in Our Image’ – so be it in our mind & body!
